Frequently Asked Questions

I wanted to take moment to chat about some of the most common questions that I get. Maybe they will answer some of the questions you have regarding what it is I do. Below you will find answers to 5 different questions regarding my business. Enjoy!

1. If I had my child(ren) years ago, can I still do your programs?

Yes!! I work with women who are trying to conceive, who are pregnant, early postpartum or had their child(ren) years ago! Once you are postnatal, you are always postnatal. A lot of women won’t start to notice changes in their pelvic floor until later in life, it is never too late to begin working on your breathing and coordination; getting back to the activities you love to do!

2. Can I still work with you if I have not given birth before?

You absolutely can! As a Kinesiologist, I can train anyone and everyone. I have worked in a few physiotherapy clinics as well as a couple private gyms over the years, helping and training the general public. Fun fact: Even with my new business, I still train men as well.

I have spent a lot of my time getting my specialty in pre and postnatal training, but I still love training everyone! I have a couple clients with whom I train both husband and wife and I LOVE it! No matter your goals, I can create a program that is right for you.

3. What do sessions with you look like?

I work mostly online, but also contract out of a clinic in Chilliwack part time. The clinic sessions will look a bit different than my online sessions. In both situations, we start with an initial assessment where I will put you through a variety of functional movements in order to find compensation patterns in your body. This helps me choose specific to you exercises for your program. During this assessment, we also review the core breath and begin coordinating your breathing with your pelvic floor. I check in on core activation and, if necessary, assess diastasis recti to see what other modifications will be needed to begin with (in person I check this, online I talk you through how to assess). You will be sent home with some homework until our follow-up session where I will have a full corrective and strength program for you to begin working on!

Follow-up sessions in person will include either performing your workout live and in person, or going over a new one. I would demonstrate and watch you perform the movements so you are comfortable doing them at home.

For my one-to-one online clients, they have an option of weekly virtual workouts where we would do a video call and the client would perform their workout while I give live cues.

4. How do you work together with Physiotherapy?

I like to explain a Kinesiologist to a Physio as what a nurse is to a doctor. Physiotherapists can do full assessments and diagnose musculoskeletal injuries etc. As a Kin, I can take that information and put it into corrective exercises and movements that are appropriate for that individual. I have a specialty in pre and postnatal fitness coaching and am a core confidence specialist among other additional trainings. I use all this training and knowledge to create the best programs I can for my clients. Knowing what is safe for different injuries, prolapse, diastasis, pelvic pain, etc. allows for safe and effective programs to getting you back to doing the activities you love with less or no symptoms!

5. What if I have a previous injury that isn't related to having my child(ren)?

As a kinesiologist, I have a 4 year degree based solely on learning how they body moves. I have also worked in physiotherapy clinics doing active rehabilitation under the guidance of physiotherapists and taken multiple courses on how to modify exercises in relation to certain injuries. My favourite response to this is, "there is always a way!" We just have to find out way is going to work for you and your body. This occasionally requires some trial and error, but that's ok! I absolutely LOVE finding new ways to do movements so that I can get you back to doing the activities that you love. If you end up with a new injury, the program you are already doing can be modified to work some rehab-based movements into it to keep your body moving while you recover.

I would LOVE to hear from you if you have any other questions from what you learned here today. My contact information is at the bottom of the page.
